Create a WiFi QR code

A WiFi QR code stores a network name, security type, password and hidden-network setting. Compatible phones can read these details and offer to join the network without the user typing the password.

How to create a WiFi QR code

  1. Enter the network name exactly as it appears, including capital letters and spaces.
  2. Select the matching security type and enter the password. Choose the hidden option only when the network does not broadcast its name.
  3. Test the preview on devices that are not already connected to the network.
  4. Choose a file format and select Download.

This is a static code. Anyone who can scan or decode it can recover the stored network details, so place it only where intended guests can access it. Create a new code after changing the SSID, security type or password.

Some punctuation in a network name or password can be interpreted differently by QR scanners. Test characters such as semicolons, commas, colons, backslashes and quotation marks before printing. Device support also varies for hidden and older WEP networks.
